Trader

A trader is responsible for the buying and selling of financial securities on behalf of their firm or clients. They may specialise in a particular type of security, such as stocks, bonds, or commodities, or they may trade a variety of securities. In either case, traders must have a thorough understanding of the financial markets and the risks involved in each type of transaction. They must also be able to make quick decisions based on changes in the market. Traders typically work in banks, investment firms, or hedge funds. Some traders are self-employed.

Qualifications, training and skills required
  • Becoming a trader is an exciting and challenging career choice. While there are no specific educational requirements, most traders have at least an educational background in a field such as finance, economics, or accounting. Traders must be able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. As the job requires quick decision-making, traders must also be able to remain calm under pressure. Most importantly, traders must have a keen understanding of financial markets and the ability to spot opportunities for profit.
